Assessment

The members of your group need to adopt different roles in order to ensure that certain critical things get done; however, all members need to work as a team and assist when necessary:

  • Producer - responsible for overall operation and management of things, including advertising; also needs to know newscast terminology and educate team-mates about it; the producer is also the principal authority on scientific accuracy
  • Director - responsible for the script including the timing of the newscast.  You will have a total of 10 min to prepare and 20 min to present your newscast.
  • Production Chief - responsible for all images and graphics used in the newscast, as well as cut lines (captions) for all images used; needs to know the principles of photo, and image manipulation and is the principal authority on the use of Power Point
  • Script Writer - responsible for all copy (i.e. the stories): gathering information, writing the copy, proofreading it, and readying it for the finished product.  (Each anchor will write their own stories)

Each member of the team must also assume a role and perform in the actual newscast.  The following roles must be filled:

  • News Anchor This person will read the news.
  • Weather Anchor This person will give the weather forecast
  • Sports Anchor This person will review the sports
  • Entertainment Anchor This person will share the latest and hotest shows of the week.

Each anchor will be responsible to write two stories and as a team you will be required to write two commercials.

Your stories will be handed in as a team.  Collect all the stories into one Microsoft Word document and hand the completed stories in a single file.  Name the file "Team # Stories ACT Class".  Example "Team 3 Stories FI"

Your News Cast presentations and picture backgrounds will be created on Microsoft PowerPoint, one per team.  This presentation will be handed in electronically.  Make sure you name your file "Team # - EcoNews - ACT Class", e.g. Team 4 EcoNews 7F.

The following links will assist you in organizing and writing your stories.
